A Resilient Workforce

A Resilient Work force goes beyond survival.

Daryl R. Conner tells us in his book, Managing at the Speed of Change that resilient people are positive, focused, flexible, organized and proactive.

  • Positive. They feel secure and self-assured.
  • Focused. They have a clear vision of what they want to achieve.
  • Flexible. They are pliable when responding to uncertainty.
  • Organized. They develop structured approaches to managing ambiguity.
  • Proactive. They engage change rather than defend against it.

You estimate a project would take 2 weeks to complete. After a month, you're just now nearing the finish point. You take a positive view about the timing by acknowledging how much you've learned in the process. You stay focused and organized about what yet needs to be completed. And you refrain from any inner criticism. As the project is completed, you acknowledge yourself and others for your flexibility and tenacity.

Resiliency is a teachable skill. People simply need a structure to help them integrate and sustain it. Resiliency in the work force strengthens people to produce beyond a level of survival to a level where they prosper, even in times of pressure, chaos, and complexity.
